Long before I ever raised a camera to it, I would sit and watch flames dance, entranced by them the way people are entranced by moving water. That was the spring of 2014, and though I didn't know it yet, this was where my fire studies truly began.
Watching fire is a meditative practice. As the mind draws quiet, the flames begin to speak. This one spoke to me of grace. It showed me its own meaning, sitting there in quiet contemplation beneath a blanket of stars, entwined with a light breeze that moved it side to side, sweeping, entranced itself in its own dance between flame and air.
I simply watched, and let it show me what it already knew.
